Known as Cimex lectularius, the bed bug is a small, reddish-brown insect that feeds on human blood. These pests are about the size of an apple seed and are commonly found in the seams of mattresses, box springs, and furniture cracks. Bed bugs are primarily active at night and can hide in small spaces like fabric folds, electrical outlets, and picture frames.
Bed bugs pass through five nymphal stages before reaching adulthood, each requiring a blood meal to molt to the next stage. Female bed bugs can lay approximately five eggs each day in hidden places. They can survive for several months without feeding. While bed bugs don’t transmit diseases, their bites can lead to itching and allergic reactions.
The bed bug species Cimex hemipterus is found mostly in tropical and subtropical climates. Similar to the more widespread Cimex lectularius, these bugs feed on human and animal blood. They are small, reddish-brown insects that grow to about 4-5 mm, with an oval and flattened shape that makes them good at hiding in cracks and crevices.
These bed bugs are mostly active at night but can also feed during the day in hot or dry conditions. They prefer to live near water to ensure their larvae have enough moisture. If you suspect an infestation, check for these bugs near your bed or other sleeping areas. Look for small blood spots on sheets, brown fecal smears, and discarded skins as signs.
Leptocimex Boueti bed bugs can be a significant issue if they get into your home. They feed mainly on humans, usually at night, but may come out during the day if it’s too hot or dry. These bugs prefer areas near water sources to ensure their larvae have access to water, although they don’t live in water.
Adult Leptocimex Boueti bed bugs are around the size of an apple seed, with a flat, oval body. They are reddish-brown, darkening after feeding. They feature long antennae and compound eyes that look like raspberries. With three pairs of legs, their bodies can expand while feeding. If you think you have a bed bug issue, it’s important to act quickly. Rancho Bernardo Pest Control can help you get rid of these pests and keep them from returning.
Bed bug eggs are tiny, about 1mm in size, and are hard to see. Their pearl-white color blends easily with light-colored surfaces. After five days, an eye spot might appear on the eggs, making them slightly easier to identify.
Bed bugs lay their eggs in concealed, protected places near their food sources. These places often include mattress seams, crevices in box springs, and under baseboards. A female bed bug can lay up to five eggs daily, and these eggs hatch within 4-12 days. If untreated, these eggs can result in new infestations.
Bed bug nymphs are immature bed bugs that undergo five stages before becoming adults. These nymphs are smaller and paler than adult bed bugs, making them harder to detect. Each developmental stage requires a blood meal to molt to the next, usually taking about 5-10 minutes.
Nymphs are commonly found near areas where people sleep or rest, like in mattress seams, bed frames, and tiny crevices. Signs of nymph presence include tiny pale bugs and small blood spots on sheets. Proper treatment focuses on these areas to ensure all nymphs are eradicated.
Adult bed bugs are small, reddish-brown insects about the size of an apple seed. Their bodies are flat and oval-shaped, swelling up after they feed. They feed on human blood and usually bite at night when people are asleep.
Bed bugs hide in areas close to sleeping people, such as mattress seams, bed frames, and nearby furniture. They can also be found behind electrical outlets and picture frames. Signs of bed bugs include tiny red blood spots, dark brown fecal stains, and shed skins. Regular inspections of these areas can help catch and handle bed bug infestations early.
At Rancho Bernardo Pest Control, our bed bug treatment process starts with a detailed inspection by our certified inspectors. They locate bed bugs by examining symptoms or photos and provide a prep sheet with guidelines. Customers must prepare by taking down items from walls, vacuuming infested areas, and laundering bedding and clothes. Our technicians treat the whole room, targeting furniture footings, moldings, cracks, crevices, bed frames, headboards, box springs, and mattresses. The black covering under the box spring needs to be removed for the treatment to be effective. Treated areas should remain empty for at least three hours.
We typically recommend 3-4 treatment sessions, tailored to the severity of the infestation. Treatment costs are determined post-inspection. While our treatments are pet-safe, we advise vacating the premises for 3-4 hours during and after the process. We offer a 30-day warranty for treatments that cover the entire home. To prevent future infestations, follow our guidelines and maintain cleanliness. Our methodical and effective approach ensures complete bed bug removal, giving our clients peace of mind.
We offer a complimentary follow-up treatment two weeks after our initial bed bug service. This includes the application of an insect growth regulator to stop the bed bugs’ life cycle, ensuring any remaining eggs or nymphs are treated to prevent them from maturing.
Our technicians will re-inspect the treated areas to look for any signs of bed bug activity. This extra step offers an added layer of protection and reassurance. With our follow-up treatment, you can be confident that we are committed to completely eradicating bed bugs from your home.
